3.12 Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR):

The ethos of DBBL for pursuing its activities in social arena has got further momentum with your enthusiasm and support. Dutch-Bangla Bank Foundation (DBBF) is consistently pursuing its objective of being active in those social areas where it is needed most. The Foundation carries out diverse social and philanthropic activities in the field of education, health, conservation of nature, creation of social awareness, rehabilitation of distressed people and such other programs to redress human sufferings. It also promotes different socio-cultural and sports activities. Your Board of Directors in order to discharge its corporate social responsibilities in a greater perspective continued its contribution amounting to 5.00% of Bank's profit after charging loan loss provision to Dutch-Bangla Bank Foundation (DBBF). The CSR activities of the Bank can broadly be categorized under two heads: continuous and need basis. The continuous programs are mostly of permanent nature, which the Foundation contemplates to carry out years together. Some of those are cited below:

1. Scholarships: Education is a pre-requisite for the overall development of the country. In this sector, our contribution through DBBF is worth mentioning. DBBF has been awarding scholarships to the meritorious and needy students of the following levels every year since 2003: a. awards about 1250 scholarships every year to needy and meritorious students studying at H.S.C., Bachelor and Masters level. The scholarships are available for the entire academic period and the bank spends about Tk.4.00 crore every year for awarding these scholarships.

b. M. Phil / Ph.D/ Post Doctoral Level: Fellowship is given to those researchers having Masters degree and studying at different public universities in M. Phil / Ph.D/ Post Doctoral Level. Every year 50 fellowships are given in this level to the researchers for their full academic period (as required by the university curriculum). According to the existing criterion of fellowship for the researchers of M. Phil / Ph.D/ Post Doctoral Level is Tk.5, 000.00 per month.

2. Smile Brighter: Cleft-lip is far more a social setback than a health problem. Boys and girls cursed with cleft-lips face a lot of problems in everyday life ranging from disruption of formal education, attending social ceremonies and impediment at the time of getting married. Considering the gravity of the situation DBBF has taken the initiative to bring back smile on the face of the boys and girls with cleft-lip through plastic surgery since 2003. More than 800 numbers of poor cleft-lipped boys & girls have so far been successfully operated across the country. Through arrangement of special camps of under this 'smile brighter' program in Dhaka, Chittagonj, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna, Barisal, Bogra, Comilla, Rangpur, Dinajpur etc. As a continuous process, the cleft-lipped boys & girls are being operated across the country for restoration of hope and dignity in their lives.

3. Diabetic Hospital: donates Tk.1, 00,000.00 per month to bear operational expenses of Narayangonj Diabetic Hospital since October 2001.

4. Rural Health Care: has established Rural Health Center at its rural branches to render free medical services to the rural and destitute people of the adjoining areas.

5. Dowry and Acid Victims: To create social awareness, DBBF is providing financial support to acid-burn and dowry victims helpless women of the country for their rehabilitation by maintaining small scale business like poultry farming, vegetable farming, goat farming, fish farming etc.

Under this program, 100 acid-burn and 400 dowry victim helpless women already received financial support in 2005 of Tk. 10,000 (taka ten thousand) per person from DBBF and in 2006 another 500 (100 acid-burn and 400 dowry victim) helpless women will get the same from DBBL.

Very recently, the Foundation took another initiative of providing support for free operation facilities to 500 helpless women who have been suffering from Vesico Vaginal Fistula.

6. Dutch-Bangla Bank donate Tk. 9.56 crore to Ibrahim Cardiatic Hospital.

7. HIV Carriers: DBBF is providing support to 23 HIV/AIDS patients (HIV/ AIDS affected women and children) of the country for their medical treatment, food supplement and others. On the other hand, the need base donations and subscriptions are extended to those areas, where it is needed most. Some of the activities in this category are:

• Tk.40, 000,000.00 (Taka forty million) to Dhaka Ahsania Mission to set up a Ahsania Mission Cancer Hospital.

• Tk. 10,000,000.00 (Taka ten million) to Bangladesh Cancer Society to set up a modern cancer hospital.

• Tk.12, 000,000.00 (Taka twelve million) to Shishu Sasthya Foundation to construct two floors of proposed 15 storied building of the Foundation.

• Tk.9, 000,000.00 (Taka Nine million) to Kidney Foundation to setup two operation theatres and a kidney transplantation ICU with a view to provide low cost services to poor kidney patients.

• TK.1, 500,000.00(Taka one million five hundred thousand) to Rotary Club of Metropolitan, Dhaka to help the disadvantaged children with hearing impairment.

• Tk.500, 000.00 (Taka Five hundred thousand) to Md. Atiqur Rahman Hridoy, a meritorious student of BUET who has been suffering from Blood Cancer.

• Tk. 100,000.00 (Taka one hundred thousand) to Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, a meritorious student of Economics Department of Dhaka University who has been suffering from Hepatities-B.

• Tk.350, 000.00 (Taka Three hundred Fifty Thousand) to Bangladesh Neonatal Forum for improving neonatal health as well as reducing neonatal Mortality rate in Bangladesh.

• Tk.350, 000.00 (Taka Three hundred Fifty Thousand) donated for sinking 25 shallow tubewells in 25 spots of Angorpota Dahagram enclaves.

• Tk.300, 000.00 (Taka Three hundred thousand) to Saleh Child Development Disability Management Centre to provide support to the mentaly retarded and disabled children.

• Tk.300, 000.00 (Taka Three hundred thousand) to Bangladesh Thalassaemia Hospital to setup modern equipments for reducing sufferings of poor Thalassaemic patients.

• Tk.200, 000.00 (Taka Two hundred thousand) to Health Promotion Limited for setting up private Chamber for Community Maternity Practitioner (CMP) Students.

• Tk.180, 000.00 (Taka One hundred Eighty Thousand) to Nirapad Sarak Chai for helping 12 families, victims of road accidents

• Tk. 150,000.00 (Taka One hundred Fifty Thousand) only to APON for organising a training program on Therapeutic Community.

• Tk.100, 000.00 (Taka One hundred thousand) only to Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled, Bangladesh for training and rehabilitation of the mentally retarded and disabled children.

• Tk.100, 000.00 (Taka One hundred thousand) to SIED TRUST, Bangladesh for rehabilitation of underprivileged intellectually disabled children.

• Tk.100, 000.00 (Taka One hundred thousand) to Street Children Partner Bangladesh to develop the condition of street children.

• Tk.100, 000.00 (Taka One hundred thousand) to EKMATTRA for making a short length feature film named "Je Shohor Chorabali.

• has donated G.C.I, sheets among the victims of river erosion and tornado-affected people of Bogra, B. Baria, Netrokona, Mymensingh, Gaibandha, Rangpur and Ramgoti at a cost of Tk. 10 million.

The DBBL has very recently chalked out an elaborate program to undertake few more programs. Such as- Donation of books to the library of different Universities, Donation of a DNA detection machine to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for preventing Thelasaemia, Repair of Prolapse uterus / V.V.F., Repair of club foot, Prevention of Drug Abuse etc. We hope with the blessings of Almighty Allah, DBBF shall continue all such altruistic activities for betterment of the society, which we all belong to.

3.13 National and International Award:

Dear Shareholders, you will be glad to know that Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited was the recipient of The 3rd Annual Asian CSR Awards, Asia's Premier Award Program on Corporate Social Responsibility given by Asian Institute of Management, for poverty alleviation through its Transport Loan Scheme. The award was given in a ceremony held on September 09, 2005 at Jakarta, Indonesia and received by our Managing Director. Your bank has also the recipient of ICAB National Award 2003 and 2004 for the Commendable Published Accounts and Reports in the Financial Sector (Banking) by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh. Besides, organized by the Television Dorshak Forum (TDF) and voted nationwide through submission of newspaper cutting by 2, 56,517 general television viewers, your bank was selected as the best organization in 2004.

3.14 Environmental Management Policy:

Sustainable ecological and socio economical developments of the society are a pivotal element of all business decisions of DBBL. A thriving physical environment has a bearing not only on the quality of life in any society but also has great impact on long-term sustainability of any corporate entity. 's policies are to nourish and support the environment and consequently the quality of life of the society in general, through which the Bank intends to enhance the trust and goodwill within the society. Our lending policies are supportive and nourishing for the environment.

The Bank has its own environmental impact assessment when it assesses the viability of projects. Projects are assessed not purely on its capacity to generate profit or to repay principal and interest but also its impact on social and environmental aspects.

3.15 Management Aspects of DBBL:

Like any other business organization, the top management makes all the major decisions in DBBL. The board of directors being at the highest level of organizational structure plays an important role on the policy formulation. The board of directors is not directly concern with the day-to-day operation of bank. They have delegated there authority to its management committee.

The board establishes the objectives and policies of the bank. The Bank has in its Management a combination of highly skilled and eminent bankers of the country of varied experience and expertise successfully led by Mr. Md. Yeasin Ali, a dynamic banker, as its Managing Director and well educated energetic and dedicated officers. Mid and lower level employees get the direction and instruction from the top executives about the duties and tasks they have to perform. Management of Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd. assumes that employees are members of the team, who actively participate in accomplishing the organization goal.
